Multiple Collector

While a collector is an essential part of any mass spectrometer, the design and incorporation of a multiple collector on to an ion microprobe requires stringent attention to detail. The SHRIMP multiple collector is designed with 5 ion counters and three faraday cups with specific attention to high mass (U-Pb) and light element (stable isotope) applications. Pb isotope analysis is possible at mass resolution 5000 with with 208Pb,207Pb, and 206Pb in the central array and the low mass head is used to collect 204Pb. Light elements C, O, and S can be analysed with Faraday cups on the three collector positions.
